Journal of Tropical Natural Resources

Focus & Scope

Journal of Tropical Natural Resources (JTNR) is a scientific journal dedicated to advancing knowledge on the sustainable utilization, management, conservation, and development of natural resources in tropical regions. The journal focuses on four principal scientific areas: Tropical Agriculture & Agrotechnology, Tropical Forestry, Tropical Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, and Tropical Environment & Natural Resources. JTNR welcomes original and interdisciplinary research that addresses scientific and practical challenges related to tropical ecosystems, biological resources, food production, community livelihoods, and sustainable natural resource management.

A. Focus

The primary focus of Journal of Tropical Natural Resources is the advancement of scientific knowledge concerning the characteristics, productivity, utilization, conservation, and sustainable management of natural resources in tropical environments.

The journal particularly encourages studies addressing the relationship between natural resources, ecosystems, production systems, biodiversity, environmental change, and human livelihoods within tropical regions.

B. Scope

1. Tropical Agriculture & Agrotechnology

Research on the development, productivity, management, and sustainability of agricultural resources and production systems in tropical regions.

  • Tropical crop production and agronomy
  • Agrotechnology and sustainable agricultural systems
  • Soil, plant nutrition, and land management
  • Plant health, protection, and agricultural biotechnology
  • Postharvest technology and agricultural product quality
  • Agribusiness, agricultural economics, and farmer livelihoods
2. Tropical Forestry

Research concerning tropical forest ecosystems, forest resources, conservation, utilization, restoration, and sustainable forest management.

  • Tropical forest ecology and biodiversity
  • Silviculture and sustainable forest management
  • Forest conservation, restoration, and rehabilitation
  • Agroforestry and community-based forestry
  • Forest products and forest resource utilization
  • Forest governance, ecosystem services, and climate interactions
3. Tropical Fisheries & Aquatic Resources

Research on biological, ecological, technological, and management aspects of fisheries and aquatic resources in tropical freshwater, coastal, and marine environments.

  • Tropical aquaculture
  • Capture fisheries and fisheries technology
  • Fish biology, health, and nutrition
  • Aquatic ecology and biodiversity
  • Coastal, marine, and freshwater resources
  • Sustainable fisheries and aquatic resource management
4. Tropical Environment & Natural Resources

Research related to tropical ecosystems, environmental processes, biodiversity, and sustainable management of natural resources.

  • Tropical biodiversity and conservation
  • Ecosystem management and restoration
  • Land, water, and natural resource management
  • Environmental quality and pollution
  • Climate change and ecological resilience
  • Natural resource governance and sustainable utilization

C. Interdisciplinary Research

JTNR welcomes interdisciplinary studies that connect agriculture, forestry, fisheries, aquatic resources, environmental science, biodiversity, climate, and natural resource management. Socioeconomic, policy, community, and livelihood studies may also be considered when they demonstrate a direct and substantive relationship with tropical natural resources.

D. Tropical Geographical Orientation

The journal primarily publishes research concerning tropical regions , including tropical islands, agricultural landscapes, forest ecosystems, freshwater environments, coastal zones, and marine ecosystems. Studies conducted outside tropical regions may be considered when they provide clear scientific relevance, comparison, or application to tropical natural resource systems.

E. Research Approaches

JTNR welcomes experimental, field, laboratory, quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods, ecological, spatial, modeling, socioeconomic, and interdisciplinary studies. All submissions should demonstrate clear scientific relevance, appropriate methodology, and a substantive contribution to tropical natural resource science and management.

Scope Notice

Manuscripts submitted to Journal of Tropical Natural Resources must demonstrate a clear relationship with tropical natural resources. Studies that do not substantially address tropical agriculture, tropical forestry, tropical fisheries and aquatic resources, or tropical environmental and natural resource issues may be declined during the initial editorial screening.
