Publication Ethics
Journal of Statistics and Data Analytics
Publication Ethics
Publication Ethics Statement: Journal of Statistics and Data Analytics (JSDA) is committed to maintaining high standards of academic integrity, research ethics, editorial independence, transparency, and responsible scholarly communication. All parties involved in the publication process, including authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher, are expected to uphold ethical principles throughout manuscript submission, peer review, editorial decision-making, publication, and post-publication processes.
A. GENERAL ETHICAL PRINCIPLES
- Research must be conducted and reported honestly, accurately, and transparently.
- Manuscripts must represent original scholarly work.
- Data, statistical analyses, computational procedures, figures, tables, and conclusions must not be fabricated, falsified, or deliberately misrepresented.
- Authors must appropriately acknowledge the work of others.
- Conflicts of interest must be disclosed.
- Peer review must be independent, objective, confidential, and constructive.
- Editorial decisions must be based on scholarly merit and must remain independent from inappropriate external influence.
- Corrections, retractions, or other post-publication actions should be undertaken transparently when necessary.
B. DUTIES OF AUTHORS
Originality and Plagiarism
Authors must ensure that submitted manuscripts are original. Text, ideas, data, methods, figures, tables, software, code, or other materials derived from previously published work must be appropriately cited or acknowledged. Plagiarism, including direct copying, inadequate paraphrasing, and unattributed reuse, is considered unethical publication behavior.
Duplicate and Concurrent Submission
A manuscript submitted to JSDA must not be under consideration by another journal or publisher at the same time. Authors must not submit substantially the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously. Previously published material must not be republished as new research without appropriate justification and disclosure.
Data Integrity
Authors are responsible for the accuracy and integrity of all data reported in the manuscript. Data must not be fabricated, falsified, selectively altered, or intentionally omitted in a manner that could mislead readers. Where appropriate, authors should preserve research data and analytical records for reasonable verification or replication purposes.
Statistical and Analytical Integrity
Because JSDA focuses on statistics and data analytics, authors are expected to ensure that statistical methods, computational procedures, model assumptions, data preprocessing, validation strategies, and analytical interpretations are reported accurately and transparently. Selective reporting of analyses, intentional manipulation of statistical significance, inappropriate exclusion of data, misleading visualization, or deliberate overstatement of analytical conclusions is unacceptable.
Authorship
Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made a meaningful scholarly contribution to the conception, design, methodology, analysis, interpretation, or preparation of the manuscript. All listed authors should approve the submitted version and accept responsibility for the integrity of their contribution. Guest, gift, honorary, or ghost authorship is not acceptable.
Author Contributions
Authors are encouraged to provide a clear statement describing individual contributions to the study. Contributions may include conceptualization, methodology, statistical analysis, software, data curation, validation, visualization, writing, review, supervision, or project administration.
Conflict of Interest
Authors must disclose financial, institutional, professional, personal, or other relationships that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the research or its interpretation. If no conflict exists, authors may state: “The authors declare no conflict of interest.”
Funding Disclosure
Authors should disclose financial support, grants, sponsorship, or institutional funding associated with the research. Where appropriate, the role of the funding body in study design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, or publication should also be stated.
Correction of Errors
If authors discover a significant error or inaccuracy in a submitted or published manuscript, they should promptly inform the Editorial Team and cooperate in correcting, clarifying, or retracting the article when necessary.
C. HUMAN PARTICIPANTS AND PERSONAL DATA
Research involving human participants, personal information, health records, educational records, survey responses, or other identifiable data must comply with applicable ethical, legal, and institutional requirements.
Where ethical approval or informed consent is required, authors should provide appropriate information in the manuscript. Personal or confidential data must not be disclosed without appropriate authorization.
D. DATA PRIVACY AND RESPONSIBLE ANALYTICS
Authors working with sensitive, confidential, or restricted datasets must ensure that data collection, storage, processing, sharing, and publication respect applicable privacy and data-protection requirements. Where datasets cannot be made public, authors should explain the reason for access restrictions when relevant.
E. ALGORITHMIC AND MODEL TRANSPARENCY
Studies involving machine learning, predictive analytics, automated decision systems, or algorithmic models should provide sufficient information about model development, training, validation, performance evaluation, and limitations.
Authors should avoid presenting algorithmic performance without appropriate validation or without discussing important limitations, bias, uncertainty, generalizability, and interpretability where these issues are relevant.
F. DATA AND CODE REPRODUCIBILITY
Authors are encouraged to provide sufficient information to enable independent understanding and, where reasonably possible, reproduction of the reported analyses. This may include datasets, statistical code, computational scripts, simulation procedures, algorithm descriptions, software versions, and package information. When data or code cannot be shared, authors should state relevant restrictions where appropriate.
G. DUTIES OF REVIEWERS
- Review manuscripts objectively, fairly, and constructively.
- Evaluate the scientific, statistical, methodological, and analytical quality of the manuscript.
- Maintain confidentiality of manuscripts and editorial correspondence.
- Avoid using unpublished information obtained through peer review for personal or professional advantage.
- Declare any potential conflict of interest.
- Decline review assignments when appropriate expertise or sufficient time is unavailable.
- Identify significant methodological, statistical, citation, or ethical concerns.
- Notify editors when plagiarism, duplicate publication, data manipulation, or other misconduct is reasonably suspected.
- Provide professional and evidence-based comments without personal criticism.
H. CONFIDENTIALITY IN PEER REVIEW
Submitted manuscripts are confidential documents. Reviewers must not share, copy, distribute, or discuss the manuscript with unauthorized persons. Unpublished data, models, methods, software, code, algorithms, or findings must not be used without permission.
I. DUTIES OF EDITORS
- Evaluate manuscripts based on academic merit, originality, methodological rigor, scope relevance, and ethical compliance.
- Maintain editorial independence.
- Ensure a fair and appropriate peer-review process.
- Select qualified and independent reviewers.
- Protect manuscript confidentiality.
- Avoid discriminatory or inappropriate editorial decisions.
- Manage potential conflicts of interest.
- Consider reviewer reports and author responses fairly.
- Take appropriate action when allegations of misconduct arise.
- Support corrections, retractions, or expressions of concern when necessary.
J. EDITORIAL INDEPENDENCE
Editorial decisions must be based on scholarly quality, methodological validity, originality, relevance, and ethical considerations. Decisions must not be influenced by financial, commercial, institutional, personal, political, or other inappropriate considerations.
K. EDITORIAL CONFLICT OF INTEREST
Editors should not handle manuscripts where personal, financial, professional, institutional, academic, or collaborative relationships could reasonably affect their impartiality. In such circumstances, the manuscript should be assigned to another qualified editor.
L. DUTIES OF THE PUBLISHER
PT. Gammabeta Edu and Tech supports the editorial independence of Journal of Statistics and Data Analytics and is committed to maintaining responsible publication practices. The publisher supports appropriate editorial procedures, digital publication, preservation, ethical oversight, and transparent handling of post-publication issues.
M. PLAGIARISM AND SIMILARITY
Submitted manuscripts may be screened for textual similarity as part of the editorial process. Similarity results are evaluated qualitatively and not solely by numerical percentage. Plagiarism, substantial unattributed copying, inappropriate text recycling, or misleading reuse of previously published material may result in rejection or other editorial action.
N. CITATION ETHICS
References should be included because they are scientifically relevant to the manuscript. Authors, reviewers, and editors should not manipulate citations for the purpose of artificially increasing citation counts for individual researchers, journals, institutions, or publications. Unnecessary, irrelevant, or coercive citation practices are not acceptable.
O. FIGURE AND DATA VISUALIZATION INTEGRITY
Figures, graphs, charts, maps, and data visualizations must accurately represent the underlying data. Authors must not manipulate axes, scales, data ranges, colors, symbols, or graphical elements in ways that materially distort or misrepresent the results. Where visualization choices could affect interpretation, authors should use clear and transparent presentation.
P. USE OF AI TOOLS
Artificial intelligence tools cannot be listed as authors because they cannot assume responsibility for scholarly work. Authors remain fully responsible for all content, data, citations, code, statistical analyses, interpretations, and conclusions included in the manuscript.
Substantive use of generative AI or similar technologies in research, analysis, coding, data processing, or manuscript preparation should be transparently disclosed where appropriate. AI tools must not be used to fabricate data, references, results, participants, or other research content.
Q. RESEARCH AND PUBLICATION MISCONDUCT
Examples of misconduct include, but are not limited to:
- plagiarism;
- data fabrication;
- data falsification;
- statistical manipulation;
- duplicate publication;
- simultaneous submission;
- inappropriate authorship;
- citation manipulation;
- undisclosed conflicts of interest;
- misrepresentation of research methods;
- misleading data visualization;
- fabricated peer review;
- ethical violations involving participants or data.
R. HANDLING OF ALLEGED MISCONDUCT
When concerns regarding research or publication misconduct are raised, the Editorial Team will assess the available information and may request clarification, supporting data, documentation, or explanations from the parties involved. Depending on the nature and seriousness of the issue, editorial actions may include requesting corrections, rejecting the manuscript, suspending editorial processing, publishing a correction, issuing an expression of concern, or retracting a published article.
S. CORRECTIONS AND POST-PUBLICATION UPDATES
Errors that do not invalidate the principal findings may be addressed through a formal correction. Corrections should be clearly linked to the original article and should explain the nature of the amendment. Published scholarly records should not be silently altered in ways that obscure the publication history.
T. RETRACTION
An article may be retracted when there is strong evidence that its findings are unreliable because of misconduct, major error, fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, unethical research, or another serious violation that materially affects the integrity of the scholarly record. A retraction notice should clearly identify the affected article and explain the reason for the retraction.
U. EXPRESSION OF CONCERN
An expression of concern may be issued when serious questions have been raised about a published article but available evidence is not yet sufficient to determine whether a correction or retraction is appropriate.
V. COMPLAINTS AND APPEALS
Authors or other parties may communicate concerns regarding editorial procedures, peer review, ethical issues, or publication decisions to the Editorial Office. Appeals should provide clear scholarly reasons and relevant supporting information. The journal will consider reasonable complaints and appeals in a fair and professional manner.
W. CONFIDENTIALITY
Editors, reviewers, and editorial personnel must protect confidential manuscript information and should not disclose unpublished research materials to unauthorized parties. Confidential manuscript content should not be uploaded to third-party services when confidentiality and data protection cannot be appropriately ensured.
X. ETHICAL DECISION MAKING
Ethical decisions should be based on available evidence, fair evaluation, academic integrity, transparency, and protection of the scholarly record. Where appropriate, the journal may seek additional expert advice before taking significant editorial action.
Commitment to Research Integrity
Journal of Statistics and Data Analytics is committed to promoting responsible, transparent, reproducible, and ethically sound research. The journal recognizes that the credibility of statistical and data-driven research depends not only on technical sophistication, but also on honest reporting, appropriate methodology, accurate interpretation, data integrity, and responsible scholarly conduct.
