STUDI PENGARUH EFIKASI DIRI DALAM MENINGKATKAN KETERAMPILAN BERPIKIR KRITIS MAHASISWA PENDIDIKAN KIMIA

Abstract

Education is a means of improving societal welfare. In the 21st century, education requires students to possess critical thinking skills so that they can analyze information logically, evaluate arguments, and solve problems systematically. Chemistry education students, as future educators, need not only to master concepts but also to develop critical thinking abilities. Critical thinking skills can be influenced by various factors, one of which is self-efficacy. This study aimed to determine the effect of self-efficacy on the critical thinking skills of Chemistry Education students. The research employed a correlational survey method with an ex post facto design. The sample consisted of 21 second-semester Chemistry Education students. Data were collected using a self-efficacy questionnaire, while critical thinking skills were measured through a critical thinking skills test. The collected data were analyzed through prerequisite tests, including normality and linearity tests. Subsequently, hypothesis testing and simple linear regression analyses were conducted. The results of the normality test for both self-efficacy and critical thinking skills data showed significance values greater than 0.05. The linearity test between the self-efficacy and critical thinking skills variables revealed a significance value for Deviation from Linearity greater than 0.05, specifically 0.540. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that self-efficacy has a positive effect on the critical thinking skills of Chemistry Education students. This indicates that the higher the level of self-efficacy possessed by students, the better their critical thinking skills. These results suggest that students’ confidence in their ability to complete tasks and face academic challenges plays an important role in enhancing their critical thinking abilities.
