Abstract

Aggressive behavior is one of the problems that may emerge during adolescence and is associated with various factors, one of which is parenting style. Based on initial observations conducted in Nagari Tabek Patah, aggressive behaviors were found among some adolescents, such as using harsh words, becoming easily angry when reprimanded, and engaging in conflicts with peers. This study aims to determine the relationship between permissive parenting and aggressive behavior among adolescents in Nagari Tabek Patah. This study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational method. The population consisted of 477 adolescents aged 13–18 years, with a sample of 83 respondents selected using the Slovin formula and stratified random sampling technique. Data were collected using a permissive parenting scale and an aggressive behavior scale. Data analysis included descriptive analysis, normality testing, linearity testing, and hypothesis testing using Spearman’s Rank correlation with IBM SPSS Statistics version 20. The results showed a positive and significant relationship between permissive parenting and aggressive behavior among adolescents. The Spearman’s Rank correlation test yielded a correlation coefficient of 0.534 with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a moderate relationship. The majority of respondents were categorized as having moderate levels of permissive parenting and aggressive behavior. Therefore, Ha was accepted and H₀ was rejected. These findings indicate that permissive parenting is one of the factors associated with aggressive behavior among adolescents.
