Publication Ethics

Ethical Commitment: Dialogue: Educational and Social Perspectives is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity, research ethics, editorial independence, fair peer review, transparency, and responsible scholarly publishing. All parties involved in the publication process, including authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher, are expected to uphold these principles.

A. ETHICAL PRINCIPLES

The journal promotes responsible scholarly communication and requires that all submitted manuscripts demonstrate originality, transparency, methodological integrity, proper attribution, and compliance with applicable ethical standards. Editorial decisions are based on the academic merit, originality, relevance, methodological quality, and ethical acceptability of the manuscript.

B. DUTIES OF EDITORS

  • Editors evaluate manuscripts objectively based on scholarly quality, relevance, originality, methodology, and contribution.
  • Editorial decisions must not be influenced by race, ethnicity, gender, religion, nationality, institutional affiliation, political orientation, or other irrelevant personal characteristics.
  • Editors must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts.
  • Information obtained through the editorial process must not be used for personal advantage.
  • Editors must disclose and appropriately manage conflicts of interest.
  • Editors should ensure that manuscripts are reviewed by qualified and independent reviewers.
  • Editors are responsible for responding appropriately to allegations of publication misconduct.
  • Editorial decisions must remain independent from commercial, institutional, or personal pressure.

C. DUTIES OF REVIEWERS

Reviewers play an important role in maintaining the academic quality and integrity of the journal. Reviews should be objective, constructive, confidential, and based on scholarly considerations.

  • Reviewers should accept assignments only when they possess appropriate expertise.
  • Reviewers should decline an invitation if they have a conflict of interest.
  • Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents.
  • Review comments should be respectful, objective, evidence-based, and constructive.
  • Personal criticism of authors is inappropriate.
  • Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been appropriately cited where necessary.
  • Reviewers must not use unpublished information from a manuscript for personal research or advantage.
  • Reviewers should report suspected plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, duplicate publication, or other ethical concerns to the editor.

D. DUTIES OF AUTHORS

  • Authors must submit original scholarly work.
  • All sources and contributions from others must be properly acknowledged.
  • Data and findings must be reported accurately and honestly.
  • Fabrication, falsification, manipulation, and selective misrepresentation of data are prohibited.
  • Authors must not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously.
  • Authors must disclose relevant conflicts of interest and sources of funding.
  • All individuals listed as authors must meet appropriate authorship criteria and approve the final manuscript.
  • Authors must obtain appropriate ethical approval and consent for research involving human participants where required.
  • Authors should cooperate with editors during investigations of ethical concerns.
  • Authors are responsible for correcting significant errors identified before or after publication.

E. ORIGINALITY AND PLAGIARISM

Authors must ensure that submitted manuscripts are original. Ideas, words, data, images, tables, figures, or other materials taken from other sources must be properly cited and acknowledged. Plagiarism includes direct copying, inappropriate paraphrasing, unattributed use of ideas, unauthorized reproduction, and other forms of intellectual misappropriation. All submissions may be subjected to similarity and originality screening before or during the editorial process.

F. DATA FABRICATION AND FALSIFICATION

Fabrication or falsification of research data is strictly prohibited. Authors must not invent participants, observations, interview responses, survey results, statistics, references, images, or other research evidence. Manipulation of data or images in a manner that misrepresents the research findings is considered serious publication misconduct.

G. DUPLICATE AND SIMULTANEOUS SUBMISSION

Authors must not submit substantially the same manuscript to more than one journal at the same time. Previously published work should not be submitted as a new manuscript unless the new submission represents a legitimate and clearly disclosed scholarly development. Authors must disclose relevant previous publications, conference proceedings, preprints, theses, reports, or related materials when appropriate.

H. AUTHORSHIP AND CONTRIBUTORSHIP

Authorship should reflect substantial scholarly contributions to the conception, design, execution, analysis, interpretation, or preparation of the manuscript.

  • All listed authors must approve the submitted and final versions.
  • Individuals who do not meet authorship criteria should not be listed as authors.
  • Ghost authorship, guest authorship, and honorary authorship are not acceptable.
  • Contributors who do not qualify as authors may be acknowledged appropriately.
  • Requests for changes in authorship after submission must be justified and agreed to by all affected authors.

I. CONFLICT OF INTEREST

Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose financial, institutional, professional, personal, or other relationships that could reasonably be perceived to influence the research, review process, or editorial decision. Disclosure of a conflict of interest does not automatically prevent publication, but transparency is required to preserve trust in the editorial process.

J. RESEARCH INVOLVING HUMAN PARTICIPANTS

Research involving human participants must be conducted in accordance with relevant ethical requirements and should protect the rights, dignity, privacy, safety, and welfare of participants.

Where applicable, manuscripts should clearly report:
  • ethical approval or institutional authorization;
  • informed consent procedures;
  • participant confidentiality and privacy protection;
  • data anonymization procedures;
  • specific protections for vulnerable participants.

Special care must be taken in studies involving children, students, persons with disabilities, marginalized communities, or other vulnerable groups. For minors, appropriate parental or guardian consent and participant assent should be obtained where applicable.

K. RESEARCH DATA AND TRANSPARENCY

Authors are expected to maintain accurate records of research data and should provide sufficient methodological information to allow readers to evaluate the validity of the study. When reasonably requested and ethically permissible, authors may be asked to provide underlying data, research instruments, analytical procedures, or other supporting documentation. Confidential, sensitive, or personally identifiable data must be handled responsibly.

L. CITATION ETHICS

References should be selected based on scholarly relevance and should accurately represent the literature related to the manuscript. Citation manipulation, excessive self-citation, irrelevant citation, coercive citation, or deliberately increasing citations for personal, institutional, or journal advantage is not acceptable. Authors must verify the accuracy of all references, including author names, article titles, journal titles, publication years, page numbers, URLs, and DOIs.

M. USE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TOOLS

Artificial intelligence tools may be used responsibly to support legitimate scholarly activities, but they do not replace human accountability. AI systems cannot be listed as authors. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, interpretation, references, and integrity of all submitted content.

AI tools must not be used to:
  • fabricate research data or participants;
  • generate false or unverifiable references;
  • manipulate research evidence;
  • conceal plagiarism;
  • misrepresent AI-generated material as genuine empirical data;
  • violate confidentiality or participant privacy.

N. CONFIDENTIALITY IN PEER REVIEW

Dialogue applies a double-blind peer-review process. Editors and reviewers must protect manuscript confidentiality and must not share, reproduce, discuss, or use unpublished material without appropriate authorization. Confidential manuscripts should not be uploaded to external AI systems or third-party services when confidentiality and data protection cannot be guaranteed.

O. HANDLING ALLEGATIONS OF MISCONDUCT

When possible publication misconduct is identified, the journal will conduct an appropriate editorial assessment. Depending on the seriousness and nature of the concern, the editorial team may request explanations, original data, research documentation, ethical approval records, or other supporting materials from the authors. Where necessary, the journal may consult reviewers, independent experts, authors' institutions, or other relevant parties. Allegations will be handled carefully, fairly, confidentially, and without prejudging the outcome.

P. CORRECTIONS, RETRACTIONS, AND WITHDRAWALS

The journal is committed to maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record. When significant errors or ethical concerns are identified after publication, Dialogue may issue a correction, retraction, expression of concern, or other appropriate publication notice. Withdrawal of a manuscript before publication will be handled in accordance with the journal's Retraction, Correction, and Withdrawal Policy. Published articles will not be silently altered to conceal significant errors or misconduct.

Q. COMPLAINTS AND APPEALS

Authors or other stakeholders may submit a reasoned complaint or appeal concerning editorial procedures, ethical decisions, peer review, or publication matters. Appeals should clearly identify the manuscript or publication concerned and provide a specific explanation and supporting information. Complaints and appeals will be considered objectively and, where appropriate, by an editor who was not directly involved in the original decision.
